Cowshill


Cowshill is hamlet on killihope road A689, approximately 12 miles west of Stanhope. On the burn close by the hamlet is the spectacular Burtree force. From Cowshill it is approximate three miles west along the A689 is the Killhope lead mining centre.

Here minerals have been mined since Roman Times with greastest activity during the nineteenth century. The Park Level Mine at Killhope is the Best Preserved Lead Mining centre in the country. Domonating the Mine is Thirty Four foot water wheel This wheel was used to power the Lead ore crushing Mills.
